Amsterdam Museum to Open Free Outdoor Exhibition on Moluccan History
The Amsterdam Museum and the National Slavery Museum are launching a free outdoor exhibition titled Samangat! Moluccans in Amsterdam at de Kop van Java. Opening on Thursday 30 July, the display runs until 21 October 2026.

Marking the commemorative year 75 Years of Moluccans in Amsterdam, the project is produced in collaboration with the City of Amsterdam. It highlights the shared history of Moluccan Amsterdammers 75 years after their arrival in the Netherlands, examining a mutual history rooted in a colonial past that continues in the city today.

The exhibition features interviews conducted by guest curator Huib Akihary alongside portraits captured by photographer Eva van Kesteren. Visitors can view the public display at the Kop van Java-eiland location free of charge.
