Visiting Barcelona's La Sagrada Familia: Opening Hours, Tickets and Visitor Guide
Attracting three million visitors every year, La Sagrada Familia stands as Spain's most visited sight. Located in Barcelona's Eixample (Right) district, Antoni Gaudi's masterwork features unique Modernista styling, intricately carved Christian allegories on its four exterior facades, and soaring white interior pillars reminiscent of tree trunks. When completed, the basilica will feature 18 spires, with its central spire reaching a height of 172.5 metres—one metre lower than Montjuic mountain—making it the tallest religious structure globally. Construction originally began in 1882, with Gaudi taking over the project in 1883, and full completion is targeted for the centenary of Gaudi's death in 2026.

Select admission tickets include elevator access up the spires. Travellers can choose between the taller Passion facade towers or the Nativity facade towers, which feature a connecting bridge; both offer views over Barcelona and the Mediterranean. Descending requires walking down narrow spiral staircases, making tower access unsuitable for children under six or individuals with reduced mobility.
As a consecrated Catholic church, strict attire regulations are enforced at entry:
