Celebration of Oral Traditions and Modern Storytelling
Founded in 1989, the event showcases world-class performers who draw from traditional folklore, songs, and ballads while exploring modern storytelling forms. Drawing heavily on the Scottish ceilidh tradition of gathering around a hearth, the festival emphasizes interactive connections between tellers and their audience, ensuring that no two live performances are identical.

Festival Highlights and Main Hub
Visitors can look forward to a wide range of programming across the eleven-day event, including:

Storytelling Performances: Live narrative shows incorporating international cultures, music, and traditional lore.
Interactive Workshops: Sessions designed for attendees to engage with performance techniques and narrative crafts.
Family and Outdoor Events: Dedicated family-friendly strands and outdoor activities.
The main hub for the event is the Scottish Storytelling Centre, recognised as the world's first purpose-built centre for storytelling. From this core venue, festival events and activities expand across various partner locations throughout Scotland.
