Edinburgh Closes and Coffee Tour: Underground History and Local Brews on the Royal Mile
Travellers visiting Edinburgh can experience the Closes and Coffee tour, a two-part event combining the city's history with local coffee. The experience runs daily from 1st January to 31st December.

The tour starts at John's Coffee House and Tavern, located at The Lost Close, 1 Barrie's Close, Edinburgh EH1 1RF. This site was once a gathering place for Enlightenment figures such as Adam Smith and David Hume. Beneath the tavern is The Lost Close, an underground space hidden for nearly two centuries until its rediscovery in 2019. Visitors learn about the arrival of coffee in Edinburgh while enjoying a freshly brewed cup from local roaster Common Coffee.
The second part of the tour takes place at The Real Mary King's Close. Participants descend into the preserved streets beneath the Royal Mile for a one-hour guided tour exploring the lives of past residents.
