Korea Travel Payment & Luggage Guide: QR Code Mobile Payment (Alipay/WeChat Pay) + Easy Drop Baggage Check-in

Shopping and luggage handling just got easier for visitors to Korea. The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has distributed 20,000 QR code payment kits so foreign tourists can pay with the apps they already use at home, while Incheon International Airport's Easy Drop baggage service now covers Seoul's Myeong-dong and Gangnam districts - no more hauling suitcases to the airport.

QR Code Mobile Payment: No Korean App Needed

In cooperation with the Korea Easy Payment Foundation, the KTO distributed 20,000 standard QR code payment kits. Built on Korea's domestic Zeropay service, the standard QR codes connect to 17 overseas mobile payment services including Alipay and WeChat Pay.

Travelers can simply use the mobile apps they use back home to make purchases across Korea, with no need to install local apps. Payments are easy at traditional markets and any business displaying a standard QR code.

Easy Drop Baggage Service: Check In Downtown, Collect at Your Destination

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Incheon International Airport Corp. (IIAC) expanded Easy Drop, a baggage check-in service for departing foreign travelers, to Seoul's Myeong-dong shopping neighborhood and Gangnam-gu District. Easy Drop lets departing travelers check their bags away from the airport and collect them at their destination airport abroad.

The service debuted in Myeong-dong at a dedicated luggage check-in office near Exit 9 of Myeongdong Station. Before the expansion, it was available only to passengers of Korean Air, Asiana, Jeju Air and T'way at the City Airport Terminal and Holiday Express Hotel in Seoul, plus Inspire Entertainment Resort and Paradise City Hotel in Incheon.

The ministry and IIAC plan to extend the service early next year to hotel-dense areas near Apgujeong and Sinsa stations in Gangnam.

Quick Tips

Look for standard QR codes at traditional markets and local shops to pay with your home payment app. If your departure day is packed, drop your luggage at the Myeong-dong or Gangnam Easy Drop points first and enjoy hands-free shopping.
