Stepping into Naejangsan Mountain, the first thing that catches your eye is the 3‑kilometre‑long Maple Tunnel. Maple trees aged between 50 and 200 years old form a dense canopy overhead, with sunlight filtering through the gaps in the branches and leaves, casting dappled light and shadows. As you walk through, the fallen leaves underfoot are soft and produce a faint rustling sound, while the maples above sway gently in the breeze, as if softly singing an autumnal love song. When the wind picks up a little, the maple leaves fall like crimson rain, creating an utterly romantic scene.

Naejangsa Temple, first built in 660 AD, takes on a distinctive charm in autumn. The ancient architecture and the fiery maple leaves complement each other perfectly, with the red walls and black‑tiled roofs appearing even more solemn surrounded by maples, while the liveliness of the maple leaves adds a touch of vibrancy to the temple. The occasional sound of the temple bell, drifting slowly and resonantly, seems to transcend a thousand years of time, blending seamlessly with the autumn scenery and bringing a sense of tranquillity to the heart.
Climbing up to the Naejangsan Mountain Observatory, you can take in a panoramic view of the vast maple forest. The rolling mountain ridges are all covered with colourful maple leaves, resembling a surging sea of colours. The distant peaks, adorned with maples, stand out in distinct layers, forming a stunningly beautiful landscape painting against the blue sky and white clouds. At this moment, a gentle mountain breeze brushes past your face, carrying the faint fragrance of maple leaves, leaving you utterly enchanted.
Naejangsan Mountain is home to 11 different species of maple trees, each changing colour at different times, which extends the maple‑viewing season to several weeks. The best viewing period is from late October to mid‑November each year, during which the maple leaves gradually turn from green to yellow, then to orange‑red and deep crimson, presenting a rich array of colour gradients. On weekends, there are many domestic tourists in Korea; if you wish to enjoy the maples in peace, consider visiting on a weekday morning or in the early hours of a weekend day to savour a moment of solitude that is truly your own.

▼ Uhwa Pavilion – A Hidden Gem of Naejangsan Mountain. This elegant, traditional pavilion sits quietly atop a calm pond, and in autumn, the pond reflects the breathtaking red, orange, and yellow leaves; in spring and summer, it mirrors lush greenery, exuding serenity and peace.

▼Visit the historic Naejangsa Temple to add a touch of serene cultural ambience to your scenic adventure.
