A free three-day festival brings the fiery flavours and vibrant culture of Thailand's northeast to the capital
If a single bite of som tam — that fiery, addictive papaya salad — was enough to win you over, then ISAN UNBOXED FEST 2026 is for you.
The free event brings Isan, Thailand's northeastern region, straight to Bangkok, no plane ticket required. Spanning local culture, music, crafts and the region's famously bold cuisine, it packs three days of Isan experiences into a single venue.
Organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the festival "unboxes" Isan across five themed zones. Start at the Isan food and café station to hunt down regional dishes that are harder to find in the capital — the region's punchy flavours are worth every bead of sweat.
Between bites of sticky rice, catch live Isan music. The lively rhythms of mor lam are so infectious you may find yourself dancing before you've finished eating. Over at the Isan acoustic and talk zone, enjoy performances and learn more about the region's culture and travel experiences.
Once you've had your fill of walking, eating and dancing, slow down at Isan ma muan ma mu, where wellness traditions, local wisdom and spiritual practices offer a welcome chance to recharge.
Then enjoy some retail therapy at the Isan souvenir zone, where handmade crafts meet creative workshops. Pick up something made in the region or try your hand at making something yourself.
If the festival leaves you ready to book a flight, head to Isan hot deals, where tourism operators from across the region showcase destinations and travel offers — your next trip might be practically planned before you leave.
You may still be standing in Bangkok, but one taste of Isan is enough to show what makes the region so special.
