Half an hour from Barcelona for under €8: Catalonia's largest pool, La Bassa
Half an hour from Barcelona for under €8: Catalonia's largest pool, La Bassa
La Bassa, in Sabadell, has a picnic area of over 20,000 m² where you're allowed to bring outside food.
Summer is full of those "little pleasures" that make it more than just another season — a quick getaway, reading a good book in the sea breeze, savouring a seasonal watermelon or melon... plans and indulgences we never tire of repeating year after year.
Among all those pleasures, one releases more endorphins than almost any other, yet one we don't get to enjoy as often as we'd like: sliding down a water slide. Simple and fun, but most of us are put off by the distance to water parks or steep entry prices.

Fortunately, just over 20 minutes from Barcelona, there's one of Europe's largest pools — with slides and an entry fee under €10 per person: La Bassa de Sabadell.
The pool is more than 100 metres in diameter, spans 6,800 m² and features a 23-metre interior island connected by a 95-metre bridge. The stars of the space are two 60-metre slides, plus two shorter ones for children.
Outside the bathing area, the complex has a garden zone of over 20,000 m² with sunbathing spots and covered areas where you can picnic with outside food or try the pool bar. Little ones can play in the children's playground, complete with swings, play structures and ping-pong tables.
To make visits easier, the site has a cloakroom and is fully adapted for people with reduced mobility.
La Bassa opening hours and prices
One of this municipal pool's biggest draws is its low price compared to similar water venues. Adult tickets (ages 16–64) cost €6.30 on weekdays and €7.90 on weekends and public holidays.
Children aged 4–15 pay a reduced rate of €3.70 Monday–Friday and €4.70 on weekends and holidays. The pool stays open until August 31, from 10am to 7.30pm, so you can spend the whole day enjoying it.
