Thailand's Department of Highways is opening the full 196-km M6 motorway (Bang Pa-in – Nakhon Ratchasima) for a toll-free trial every Friday from 12.00 noon to Sunday 24.00, to ease weekend traffic. The scheme starts on Friday 21 August 2026 and runs through to the 2027 New Year holiday.
Driving routes (outbound / inbound)
From Bangkok (toward Korat): join the M6 at the Bang Pa-in interchange and drive straight to the Pak Chong interchange, or continue onto the Nakhon Ratchasima bypass for the whole route.
Toward Bangkok: because the Pak Chong – Muak Lek section is still under construction on the inbound side, drivers from Pak Chong must first use Thanarat Road and Mittraphap Road before joining the M6 at the Muak Lek interchange to head back to Bangkok.

Pak Chong (for those travelling to Sikhio and Nakhon Ratchasima only)
Note: the Department of Highways has temporarily closed the on/off ramps around km 65 on Mittraphap Road (near the Nakhon Chai Burin animal shelter) — drivers should use the Pak Chong interchange instead.
Rest areas and rules for using the M6
Rest areas: two are open, both located at the Thap Kwang rest area on the outbound and inbound sides.
Facilities: clean toilets and drink vendors.
Heads-up: there are no petrol stations or EV chargers yet, so fill up or charge before joining the motorway.
Usage rules:
Four-wheel vehicles only (trucks and motorcycles are prohibited).
Speed limit of 80 km/h.
Follow traffic signs and officers' instructions for safety.
Full 24-hour opening plan
The Department of Highways aims to open the full route toll-free around the clock every day by the end of 2026, once construction on both sides is complete, making travel between Bangkok and the northeastern Isaan region faster and more convenient.
