Capitalising on this momentum — and hot on the heels of the Pixel 11 series launch on August 12 — Google is planting its physical flag in Tokyo with Google Store Omotesando, housed inside the Tokyu Plaza Omotesando 'Omokado' complex.

Nestled between the nearby Apple and Samsung Galaxy stores, the flagship opened to the public on August 13. The spacious, warm and contemporary store spans three floors, combining direct retail — a first for Google phones in Japan — with hands-on workshops, a 'studio' for diving into the latest AI technologies, and a hardware repair booth for Pixel devices.

The first floor lets you try the full line-up of the latest Google devices, from feeling the weight of each smartphone to testing the Pixel camera and software. A standout is the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, which you can hold and open like a book — something iPhone users will have to wait for.

Alongside the huge wall of phone cases, the floor is anchored by the installation 'California Dreaming: Landscape of Colors 2026', where artificial hibiscus made from recycled materials evokes the real plants that — together with sand, obsidian and olive trees — inspired the Pixel colourways.

Head upstairs to the second floor and you'll enter Pixel Studio, a space devoted to Google's latest AI. Here you can use Nano Banana, the company's newest image generation and editing model, at the Gemini photo booths (essentially high-tech purikura machines) to reimagine yourself as an ukiyo-e print, an 8-bit Akihabara scene or a Harajuku-style Lego figure — these booths even churn out AI-generated videos of you.

Other interactive stations include an avatar maker, where a physical Pixel 11 phone snaps a selfie and turns it into a one-of-a-kind avatar you can take home as an ID card.

The most visually impressive immersive AI offering is Project Genie, a booth where you explore fully navigable environments that generate in real time as you move the joystick. The experimental AI research prototype invites you to type a prompt describing the world you want to generate and the character you'd like to play.

This floor also sells store-exclusive official merchandise, from colourful limited-quantity tote bags and stationery to Japan-inspired tableware, all accented with Google's signature colours.

Down in the basement, Pixel users get free troubleshooting support plus in-store repairs for Pixel hardware (Pixel phones, Pixel 6a and newer) and Pixel Watches (Pixel Watch 4 and newer). The customer support area features an artwork by designer and artist Norihiko Terayama made from recycled Pixel Watch band components — a welcome addition, since Pixel owners previously had no official store repair option.
