This autumn, Madrid will experience Odysseus's journey home firsthand thanks to a new immersive experience. MAD Artes Digitales presents its most ambitious production yet — Odisea — opening in September at Nave 16, Matadero Madrid. The exhibition arrives at a moment of renewed global interest in Homer's epic poem, driven in part by the release of Christopher Nolan's blockbuster film adaptation.
The experience begins in ancient Greece and unfolds across several spaces within MAD, each associated with a key episode of Odysseus's journey. Visitors enter a prologue establishing the hero's coordinates: the Trojan War, the impossible return to Ithaca, the promise to return to Penelope. From there, the journey is organised around the turbulent Mediterranean Sea — encounters with mythical creatures, islands that seem suspended in time, and symbolic decisions the audience must make, as if sharing with Odysseus the responsibility of pressing on.

Five Tech Formats Reinvent the Epic
The exhibition combines five distinct formats: metaverse, 360° projection, virtual reality, holography, and interactive installations. Each of the hero's eight great trials features its own visual language and original soundtrack. Rather than simply watching Odysseus's adventures, visitors participate actively through interactive dynamics — route choices, responses to visual stimuli, participation at key moments — transforming the classical myth into a 21st-century metaphor.
