Notting Hill Carnival is one of London's annual highlights - it wouldn't be summer in the city without it. Every late August bank holiday weekend, the streets of west London are flooded with an explosion of colourful, feather-decked dancers, steel pan drums, booming basslines and plenty of good times.

More than two million people flocked to Notting Hill to dance in the streets of W11 last time round, and we expect 2026 will be no different. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather, but the action will continue even if it's chucking it down.

What is Notting Hill Carnival?

Carnival is one of the longest-running street parties in the world. Started by London's Caribbean communities in 1966, it's a celebration of freedom and Caribbean culture, with an iconic parade showcasing the best of mas, soca, calypso, steel bands and sound systems.

When is Notting Hill Carnival 2026?

West London will be taken over with dazzling floats, kaleidoscopically dressed performers, rib-shaking sound systems, the sweet, smoky smell of jerk chicken and steel bands over the August Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday August 29 to Monday August 31.

What is the Notting Hill Carnival 2026 line-up?

Each year, surprise guests appear across the parade route and sound systems, sending waves of excitement rippling through Carnival. In 2024, Craig David performed an impromptu set. Sean Paul and Koffee showed up to get partygoers dancing in 2022. Even Beyonce rocked up in 1999.

The events confirmed for this year are:

Panorama - The UK's biggest steel pan competition takes over Emslie Horniman Pleasance Park on Saturday August 29.

J'ouvert - A pre-dawn celebration where participants cover each other in paint, powder and chocolate, soundtracked by steel bands. Sunday August 30, 6am to 9pm.

Opening Ceremony - Local residents, participants, carnival officials and friends of the event gather for the official opening ceremony at 10am Sunday, August 30.

Children's Parade - This family-friendly morning event sees kids dancing in the streets in their homemade Carnival costumes. Sunday August 30.

Dutty/Fun Mas - Soak up the colours of carnival literally at this event, where spectators are splashed with paints, powder and more. Sunday August 30.

Traditional Parade - Features mas, soca, calypso and much more. Sunday August 30.

Sound systems - Pitch up at a sound system location and dance the day away. There are over 30 spots to choose from on the parade route - expect to hear house, samba, reggae and much more. Sunday August 30 and Monday August 31, from midday until 7pm.

Food stalls - Hundreds of them, including Jamaican jerk chicken, Trinidadian roti and Guyanese pepper pot. Sunday August 30 to Monday August 31.

Adult's Day Parade - Expect lots of dancing, parading and partying. Monday, August 31.

How to Get to Notting Hill Carnival

Many roads are closed during Carnival, so public transport is your best bet. The nearest Tube stations include Notting Hill Gate, Ladbroke Grove, Westbourne Park and Royal Oak. Note that some stations may close or become exit-only during peak times - always check TfL for the latest information before you travel.

Carnival Essential Tips

Wear comfortable shoes - you'll be doing a lot of walking and dancing. Bring cash, as food stalls may not accept cards. Don't bring valuables. Stay hydrated - late August can still be hot. Plan your toilet stops in advance. And most importantly: soak up the atmosphere and dance to the music!
