Throughout June, July, and September, Milan's ADI Design Museum is hosting a rich programme of cultural events including exhibitions and live performances, all completely free and open to the public. The initiative aims to strengthen dialogue between the museum and its surrounding neighbourhood, particularly the Sarpi-Garibaldi-Brera area. The summer programme kicked off on June 21 and runs throughout July. During August, the museum will suspend activities to allow expansion works to progress, before reopening in September with a fresh season of exhibitions, performances, workshops, and cultural events.

Cinema, Concerts, and Gaming

The decision to make all events free of charge reflects a commitment to maximising participation and inclusion — a gesture that carries even greater significance during this transitional period when the museum cannot be visited in its usual configuration due to ongoing expansion work.

Highlights include symphony concerts produced in collaboration with the I Pomeriggi Musicali Foundation, featuring orchestral performances of celebrated repertoire pieces spanning classical music to contemporary expressions. The film series, curated by 3D Produzioni, presents a selection of high-profile international documentaries exploring the relationships between art, institutions, and society, accompanied by talks with curators and museum directors. Board game heritage sessions include collective play events, while contemporary performances of the 'Danae Festival', curated by Teatro delle Moire, round out the programme.

Notably, the 'Arte e Potere' (Art and Power) film cycle focuses on the connections between artistic production, institutions, and social dynamics, while the project 'L'archivio ritrovato: A Pop-Up Board Game Museum', curated by Spartaco Albertarelli and Stefano Mirti, charts an original journey through game design and popular culture.

Museum Reopening in September

In September, when the museum reopens, the programme will be further enriched with new exhibitions and projects, including the first major retrospective dedicated to Carlo Forcolini, installations by Fariba Ferdosi, and the exhibition 'Avete mai notato?' (Have You Ever Noticed?), curated by Michele Tranquillini, which explores visual narratives between Tokyo and contemporary Milan. This will be followed by the first edition of 'La Scuola Inutile' (The Useless School), conceived by Mario Trimarchi and Stefano Mirti, three site-specific performances by the 'Danae Festival', and a new film series 'Donne e Libertà' (Women and Freedom) dedicated to themes of rights, emancipation, and social change.
