Fourteen years after its Paris debut, "Tutankhamun: His Tomb and His Treasures" is back at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles from July 3 through September 6, 2026. Having toured the world's major cities and drawn over seven million visitors, this blockbuster exhibition proves our collective fascination with ancient Egypt is alive and well.

When it last visited France in 2012, more than 250,000 visitors came to relive one of archaeology's greatest stories. The tale begins on November 4, 1922 — after five years of searching and exactly a century after Champollion cracked the hieroglyphic code — when British archaeologist Howard Carter unearthed a tomb sealed for 3,300 years: the resting place of the boy pharaoh Tutankhamun, a ruler nearly lost to history alongside a breathtaking trove of thousands of miraculously preserved artifacts. While the originals remain safeguarded in Cairo, this exhibition presents 1,000 replicas handcrafted by Egyptian artisans, staged within a faithful reconstruction of the hidden tomb in the Valley of the Kings — allowing you to experience the discovery just as Carter did.

Yes, we'd all prefer to see the solid-gold originals encrusted with precious stones, but the Indiana Jones-worthy set design quickly pulls you into the adventure, kicked off by a docu-fiction film after a contextual introduction worthy of the best history lessons.

This upgraded edition concludes with a virtual reality journey into ancient Egypt that manages to be imaginative without veering into gimmickry. A free audio guide (over an hour long) accompanies you through the richly detailed text panels — you could easily spend an entire morning reading everything.
