Meet the Maria Alexander — a wellness retreat on a canal barge. Currently moored at Limehouse Basin following a stint at Little Venice, the 70ft by 12ft canal boat features an impressive range of facilities and treatments, including a hot tub, wood-fired sauna, and an extensive treatment menu spanning restorative massages to indulgent facials.

Prices vary depending on booking duration. It starts at £125 for the 'private floating spa and treatment' for one guest, rising to £175 for two. The two-hour experience includes a soothing aromatic foot soak, a 30-minute relaxation massage, and full use of all spa facilities.

Even better, it's completely private. You can book the Maria Alexander Spa Boat for groups of one to four people for up to four hours, though it's proven most popular with couples so far — meaning no queuing for saunas or sharing changing rooms.

The concept was created by Corvin Roman and Ingrid Eriksson. Ingrid comes from a wellness background, while Corvin works in insurance but holds a massage qualification. The idea was born from a desire to offer Londoners a more personal experience than a hotel spa.

The website describes Maria Alexander as a 'spa unlike any other', and the founders believe the gentle rocking of the water enhances the therapeutic effects of heat, hydrotherapy, and massage.
