Macau Luxury One‑Day Tour Attractions Introduction

Ruins of St. Paul's

The Ruins of St. Paul's is the facade of the Church of the Mother of God (A lgreja da Madre de Deus) located on St. Paul's Hill. It forms a single complex with the Mount Fortress and the former College of St. Paul's between them. The name "San Paa" (三巴) comes from the Portuguese name for "St. Paul" (São Paulo), and "Dai" (大) means the largest church, so "Dai San Paa" (大三巴) refers to "the largest church." As a popular tourist attraction, many different events such as the open‑air concerts of the Macau International Music Festival, the Fringe Parade, and the Macau International Youth Dance Festival are held here and at the adjacent Square of the Society of Jesus. During the Na Tcha Festival, a traditional Chinese memorial archway is erected beside the Ruins of St. Paul's, creating a striking contrast between East and West with the Ruins themselves.

A‑Ma Temple
A‑Ma Temple was first built in 1488, during the Ming Dynasty. At that time, the area in front of A‑Ma Temple was already the coastline of Macau, serving as a place for local and nearby fishermen to come ashore for supplies, rest, and prayers. The temple sits against the hill and faces the sea, built along the cliff, surrounded by ancient trees, offering beautiful scenery. The entire temple complex comprises four main structures: the Main Hall (also known as the Hall of Benevolent Enlightenment), the Stone Hall (also known as the First Hall of the Sacred Mountain), the Hong Yan Hall, and the Kwan Yin Pavilion. With stone lions guarding the gate and soaring eaves, it is an ancient building rich in Chinese cultural characteristics.

Penha Hill

Penha Hill Chapel, also known as the Chapel of Our Lady of Penha, was built beside the fortress in 1622. The chapel is simple in design, with winding mountain paths. After the nearby ancient fortress was demolished in 1892, the chapel was expanded and gradually developed into the magnificent scale we see today. In front of the chapel stands a high platform with a marble statue of the Virgin Mary, her hands clasped in prayer, with a kind countenance, facing the sea. Below it lies the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, accessible by stone steps that wind down on both sides. Inside the grotto, rugged rocks form an arched opening where a statue of the Virgin Mary stands, symbolising the apparition of the Virgin in Lourdes, France. An altar stands in the middle, and iron railings surround the front of the grotto, with rows of low benches on the ground for kneeling and confession.

It is the 10th tallest free‑standing observation tower in the world and a member of the World Federation of Great Towers.
