Established in 1983, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum is Taiwan's first public art museum, with a mission to promote the preservation, research, development and popularisation of Taiwan's modern and contemporary art. In addition to organising the history of Taiwanese art over the past century, it also continues to pay close attention to contemporary art as it develops. With a global vision and a regional perspective, it nurtures artistic talent and promotes art education, with a view to fostering the development of the art ecosystem, enhancing the public's cultural cultivation and artistic appreciation, and advancing towards a contemporary society that values aesthetics, creativity and critical thinking.
The museum is situated in the Yuanshan area, on the banks of the Keelung River, and was designed by architect Kao Er‑pan. The building adopts a minimalist greyish‑white modernist style, incorporating the spirit of traditional Chinese courtyard architecture. The cantilevered flying corridor transforms the bracketing elements of traditional architecture into a "well"‑shaped main structural framework, symbolising the museum as a living source of cultural water. The lobby is bright and spacious, leading to exhibition spaces across three above‑ground floors and one basement level, with glass curtain walls allowing natural light in. The atrium draws in external light, presenting a tiered green ecological landscape, thereby creating a tranquil public green space that coexists harmoniously with nature. The overall form is one of refined modelling, grand scale, lightweight volume, scholarly elegance, and a harmonious blend of architecture and garden landscape.
TFAM organises biennials that embrace both Taiwanese and global characteristics, open‑call projects that link and nurture the artistic ecosystem, and hosts themed exhibitions and touring exchange shows both domestically and internationally, promoting the vibrant development of Taiwanese modern and contemporary art. It also plans a range of learning activities tailored to different age groups and audiences, including lectures, forums, guided tours, in‑gallery conversations, and various exploratory/experiential workshops.

Food, drinks, umbrellas and pets are not permitted inside the exhibition halls. 

Please do not touch the exhibits. For interactive exhibits, please follow the guidance of on‑site staff or signage. 

Please observe visiting etiquette to help maintain a pleasant experience for all. For the safety and quality of the exhibition environment, please stow away your selfie equipment before entering. 

Unless otherwise stated, non‑commercial photography of the artworks is permitted, generally allowing photography without the use of flash or tripods.
