Stepping into the Mitai Māori Village in Rotorua, New Zealand, begins a cultural journey spanning millennia. Here, there is no intrusion of commercial hustle, only the sincere hospitality of the Mitai family, unveiling the mystery and depth of Māori civilisation in the most authentic way, allowing every visitor to immerse themselves in the spirit and warmth of this land.

Board an ancient waka and gently paddle into the Wai‑o‑Whiro stream, where the water ripples softly and lush trees sway in the breeze on both banks. As the paddle cuts through the water, hear the low chanting of Māori warriors, telling the ancient legends of the Mitai tribe and the epic voyages of their ancestors across the great ocean. Journey along the stream to explore a fortified village by its banks, touch the weathered stone walls, and almost hear the echoes of ancient ancestors guarding their home, understanding the wisdom of Māori living in harmony with nature.

A spectacular Miri Te Po performance showcases the charm of Māori culture to the fullest. The fierce Te Po warriors, clad in traditional attire, display courage and honour with the powerful haka, while the graceful poi dance conveys the joy of life. Melodious songs and moving stories unveil the mysteries of Māori heritage and ancient ways of life, allowing you to deeply understand Māori beliefs and traditions.

The most anticipated part is the Māori hangi feast. In a pit 1‑2 metres deep, sizzling hot stones hold fresh ingredients like meat, chicken, and kumara. After 3‑4 hours of slow cooking, the fragrance of the earth blends deeply with the natural flavours of the food—each bite embodies the essence of Māori cuisine. Sip refreshing Puna water during the meal, feeling the pure vitality revered by Māori, and experience the unity and warmth of the Mitai family amidst laughter and joy.

As night falls, stroll through the lush forest and watch the glow of fireflies, like a river of stars descending upon the earth. Here, you can explore the significance of sacred tattoos and traditional tools, experience the heartfelt "whakatau" welcome, and become part of the Mitai family. The Mitai Māori Village, guided by the waka, hosted by the feast, and soulful through its culture, invites you to a memorable encounter, to understand the thousand‑year heritage and enduring vitality of Māori civilisation.
