The Pang Family Ancestral Hall (Peng Jia Ci) is situated atop Snail Hill (Luo Shan) in Kengba Village, Huanghua Town, Yingde City, Qingyuan. It is a defensive ancient fortress and clan ancestral hall first built in the mid‑Qing Dynasty. With its multi‑tiered architecture rising majestically layer upon layer, it is hailed as the "Little Potala Palace" of northern Guangdong and stands as the core cultural landmark of the Yingxi Peak Forest Corridor.

Attraction Highlights‑ **A Marvel of Lingnan Architecture, Little Potala Palace**
The fortress is built along the mountain, spiralling from the foot of Snail Hill to the summit, comprising three major levels and nine minor tiers. Over 120 halls and rooms blend seamlessly with the mountain terrain. A single stone stairway of 360 steps, about 1.5 metres wide, connects the upper and lower sections, while the other three sides are sheer cliffs, making it easy to defend and difficult to attack. The layout bears a striking resemblance to the Potala Palace and is a rare mountaintop defensive ancestral hall in China.
‑ **Centuries‑Old Heritage, Rich Cultural Charm**
As a provincial‑level cultural heritage protection unit, the hall preserves numerous Qing Dynasty antiquities: the imperial plaque "明義知方" (Knowing Righteousness and Propriety) bestowed during the Xianfeng reign, exquisite brick, wood and stone carvings, rustic lattice windows and murals in the study hall — traces of Lingnan traditional craftsmanship and family culture can be found everywhere.
‑ **Summit Views, Panoramic Peak Forest**
Climb to the mountaintop platform for a 360‑degree panoramic view of the Yingxi Peak Forest. The Huanghua Stream winds around like a jade ribbon, with farmland and villages scattered in between. Karst peaks rise abruptly from the ground, and at dawn and dusk when mist lingers, the scenery resembles an ink‑wash landscape painting.
‑ **Integrated Offence and Defence, Ancient Fortress Wisdom**
Serving triple functions as an ancestral hall, academy and defensive fortress, it features defence installations such as cannon towers, sentry posts and narrow passageways. Every level is strategically guarded, showcasing the architectural wisdom of ancient rural clan self‑defence.
1. **A One‑of‑a‑Kind Architectural Wonder**: One of the very few ancient fortresses in China built atop a mountain that combines both defence and sacrificial functions, boasting both architectural aesthetics and military value — a gem of Lingnan ancient architecture.
2. **Dual Experience of Culture and Nature**: Explore the fortress, read history, admire stone carvings, and ascend to the summit for breathtaking views of the Yingxi Peak Forest — a perfect fusion of cultural depth and natural splendour.
3. **A Prime Spot for Photos and Check‑ins**: Whether admiring the fortress's majestic silhouette from afar, exploring the stone stairways, or shooting the peak forest from above, every shot under dawn and dusk light is a masterpiece, brimming with antique charm and scenic beauty.
4. **A Must‑Visit Highlight of Yingxi**: As the core attraction of the Yingxi Peak Forest, it connects seamlessly with the surrounding landscapes, ancient bridges and karst caves, offering a one‑stop experience of the essence of northern Guangdong's karst scenery.
