Head to Nikko, a small city in the mountainous region north of Tokyo. Your guide will ensure you don't miss the magnificent views of Toshogu Shrine, a 17th‑century gem boasting a breathtaking five‑story pagoda. The nearby Rinnoji Buddhist Temple stands proudly as part of the same UNESCO World Heritage Site, but don't forget to visit the adjacent Taiyuin, the mausoleum of Tokugawa Iemitsu, built in honour of the third Tokugawa shogun.
You can also head to the mountainous area, where the waters of Lake Chuzenji flow over Kegon Falls, a 97‑metre natural wonder. After leaving the forest, enjoy a quiet meal at a local restaurant, where there is always yuba (tofu skin) and soba noodles, along with some locally brewed sake!
