▼Izu Shaboten Zoo

Izu Shaboten Zoo (Izu Shaboten Dōbutsu Kōen) is a popular sightseeing spot that combines the characteristics of a botanical garden and a zoo. The park cultivates approximately 1,500 species of cacti and succulents from around the world and houses about 140 species of animals, making it a firm favourite among family visitors and nature enthusiasts.

企业微信截图_17693944802484.png

The park's multiple greenhouses are designed according to geographical zones, showcasing cacti and forest‑type succulents from Mexico, Madagascar, South America, Africa and other regions. If the timing is right, you may even catch the rare sight of cacti in bloom.

At the "Cactus Collection Workshop," visitors can take part in a succulent potted plant DIY experience, creating their own little botanical world with their own hands. After the experience, you can even take your favourite potted plant home.

On the animal front, small animals in the park such as squirrel monkeys, peacocks and kangaroos are semi‑free‑ranging. Visitors can interact with them up close in various parts of the park, making it a nature experience space suitable for visitors of all ages. The large central pond in the park also offers boat rides. Aboard the "Animal Guide"‑led boats, you can feed the animals while watching their adorable antics.

The most popular star animal is undoubtedly the "capybara"! Especially during the winter season, the park hosts its famous limited‑time event — the "Originator Capybara Open‑Air Bath." Capybaras soaking in hot spring water look utterly endearing, and this has become the reason many visitors make a special trip. In addition, at "Capybara Rainbow Plaza," you can personally feed the capybaras or take photos with them.

▼Gather and Depart for Izu‑Kōgen Station

▼Ride the Izu Coast‑view Train Resort 21 Departing at 13:23‑Kurofune Train / Kinmedai Train (Train fare is included. As the entire train has unreserved seating and seats on the sea‑view side are limited, we cannot guarantee a 100% chance of getting a sea‑view seat~)

The Izu Coast‑view Train "Resort 21" is a special sightseeing train launched by Izu Kyūkō Line. The most beautiful sea‑view section of the journey is between Izu‑Kōgen Station and Izu‑Inatori Station, taking about 23 minutes — an excellent way to enjoy the coastal scenery of Izu. The entire journey hugs the Pacific coastline, with an endless ocean view outside the window, sparkling waves and a sea‑sky merge, making it a veritable "moving observation deck."

The train comes in two special liveries and themes: the historically rich "Kurofune (Black Ship)" and the "Kinmedai (Alfonsino)" themed after the local specialty of Shimoda.

Among them, the highlight section from Katase‑Shirata to Izu‑Inatori, about 5 minutes long, is the most spectacular part of the entire trip: the train runs right next to the sea, with waves seemingly surging right by the window. The train winds along the cliff coastline with completely unobstructed views, especially on clear days. Whether you ride the "Kurofune" with its steady, historically rich appearance or the brightly coloured, lively and adorable "Kinmedai," you can fully enjoy Izu's magnificent seascape and regional culture in just over twenty minutes.
