Attraction Highlights

The Willet‑Holthuysen Museum is located on Herengracht in Amsterdam's UNESCO World Heritage canal belt. Built between 1685 and 1687, it was originally the residence of Amsterdam mayor Jacob Hop. In 1895, it was donated to the city by the collector couple Louisa and Abraham Willet and converted into a museum, now under the management of the Amsterdam Museum.

This is the only canal house in Amsterdam that is open daily and retains its original interior completely. The interior is decorated in an opulent Louis XVI style, featuring a ballroom, blue salon, dining room, and bedrooms, showcasing the couple's collection of Dutch and French master paintings, Venetian glass, silverware, Delftware, and other treasures. The basement also recreates a 19th‑century kitchen scene, while outdoors there is a formal French garden restored in 1972, offering a tranquil oasis in the midst of the bustling city. Visitors can use a free multilingual audio guide to learn about the details of aristocratic life and the stories behind the collection. Every six months, the museum also presents special exhibitions focusing on 18th‑19th century art and culture. Nearby, several famous attractions can be visited on foot.
