Located about a 40‑minute drive from Sanxia city centre, Manyueyuan National Forest Recreation Area is like a beautiful hidden gem nestled deep in the mountains, showcasing majestic waterfalls, rich biodiversity, and stunning autumn foliage. The area is humid and cool year‑round, with unique climatic conditions nurturing an exceptionally diverse fern ecosystem. Even the fan fern, which is extremely demanding in terms of its growing environment, has found an ideal habitat here, highlighting the superior and unique ecological conditions of this area.

The hiking trails within the recreation area wind through lush greenery, guiding visitors to explore the wonders of nature. At the end of the trails, Manyueyuan Waterfall and Chyunu Waterfall are the two most captivating attractions of the journey. One is grand and majestic, while the other is elegant and graceful. The water cascades down from great heights, crashing against the rocks and creating a fine mist that refracts sunlight into dazzling rainbows, leaving visitors mesmerised and reluctant to leave.

Around December each year, Manyueyuan National Forest Recreation Area enters its most beautiful season. The maple leaves across the mountains gradually turn red, ranging from light orange to deep crimson, layered and scattered with perfect order, adorning the landscape like a poetic painting, stunningly breathtaking. It is for this reason that the area is renowned as “Taiwan’s Most Beautiful Low‑Altitude Autumn Foliage,” attracting countless photography enthusiasts and leaf‑viewing visitors who come to witness this dreamlike spectacle of red leaves.
