As the hustle and bustle of Bangkok sweeps past the northern side of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, a building carrying a century of memories waits quietly — this is the Bangkok National Museum. Since planting its first cultural seed within the Grand Palace in 1874, it has undergone relocation and growth, officially establishing its identity in 1926 as the guardian of Thai civilisation.

Stepping into this venue, which blends Thai elegance with diverse architectural styles, feels like travelling through a time tunnel. The patterns of Ban Chiang painted pottery from the prehistoric era remain clear, telling the dawn of civilisation before the Common Era; the stone inscriptions of the Sukhothai Kingdom are engraved with ancient scripts, bearing witness to the glorious past of the kingdom; the statue of Avalokiteshvara, known as the 'Thai Venus', showcases artistic essence with its graceful lines. From the exquisite weapons and ornate vehicles used by the king to folk puppets, shadow plays and traditional musical instruments, traditional artefacts from various periods of Thailand are gathered here, each carrying the nation's bloodline and wisdom.

Yet the charm here is never confined to the past. Since 1993, the addition of modern artworks has injected new vitality into this century‑old venue, where tradition and modernity collide and merge, presenting the diverse facets of Thai culture. Stroll through the 18th‑century ancient building exhibition halls, watching the stories of Buddha unfold slowly on the murals; turn a corner to encounter contemporary art installations, experiencing the modern expression of traditional aesthetics — a wonderful dialogue between the ancient and the modern takes place here.

Chinese audio guides are available to lead your way, and the warm visiting environment allows you to immerse yourself. During the opening hours from 8:30 to 16:00 (closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and public holidays), embark on a cultural journey spanning over a millennium. Whether you are a culture enthusiast tracing historical footprints or a family visitor sharing quality time of knowledge, the Bangkok National Museum allows you to understand Thailand's past and present.

A century has passed, yet the treasures have never faded. The Bangkok National Museum awaits you to unlock the boundless charm of Thai civilisation.
