Hidden in Guangzhou's Haizhu District is a gem of a route that combines commuting with sightseeing — the Haizhu Tram Line 1, offering a magical journey through the city's bustling urban landscape and natural beauty.

Haizhu Tram Line 1 runs east from Wanshengwei Station to west at Canton Tower Station, covering a total length of 7.7 kilometres with 11 stops along the way. Like a green sprite, the tram glides along the Pearl River, connecting iconic landmarks and attractions such as the Canton Tower, Liede Bridge, Party Pier, Convention and Exhibition Park, Guangzhou Metro Museum, and Pazhou Pagoda. Sitting inside, one side offers a view of the shimmering Pearl River with boats coming and going; the other side reveals modern skyscrapers and vibrant neighbourhoods, capturing the city's diverse charm.

If you are a photography enthusiast, don't miss these prime shooting spots: Liede Bridge South Station allows you to frame the majestic Liede Bridge alongside the grand river views; near Party Pier Station, the creative park blends industrial style with artistic flair, offering great photo opportunities; Pazhou Pagoda Station is home to the historic Pazhou Pagoda, a Ming and Qing dynasty relic that exudes antique charm against a backdrop of lush greenery. When night falls, the Canton Tower lights up brilliantly, and viewing it from the tram offers a whole different romantic scene.

Operating hours are from 7:30 to 22:40 (last train times vary by direction). Whether you want to start your day with the morning light or soak in the city's gentle charm at dusk, it's got you covered. If you fancy unlimited fun, you can buy a day pass for just 6.9 yuan, allowing unlimited rides on the same day. One adult passenger can bring up to two children under 1.3 metres free of charge.

This weekend, why not hop on the tram, enjoy the river breeze, and slowly take in Guangzhou's unique charm, creating a relaxing and unforgettable travel memory.
