Nantou County is located in central Taiwan, right at the heart of the main island of Taiwan, and is one of only two landlocked counties/cities (the other being Chiayi City). The main indigenous ethnic groups in the county include the Seediq, Bunun, Atayal, and the Thao people living by Sun Moon Lake. Taiwan's highest peak, Yushan, the largest semi-natural lake, Sun Moon Lake, the source of the longest river, the Zhuoshui River, and Taiwan's geographical centre are all located in this county. Specialties include green plums, bananas, sugarcane, Dongding Oolong tea, Shaoxing wine, bamboo crafts, water bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, Nantou pottery, and flowers. Major festivals include the Sun Moon Lake Fireworks Festival, Cingjing Torch Festival, Cingjing Windmill Festival, and Nantou Flower Carnival, among others.
