Edinburgh to Host Free 60th Anniversary Celebration for Heriot-Watt Scientific Divers

SaveHeriot-Watt University is hosting the Scientific Diving Society's 60th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, 25 September 2026, at the James Watt Centre on the Edinburgh Campus in Edinburgh West (EH14 4A). The event is free to attend and open to the public.
Arrivals and welcome drinks with canapés begin at 6 pm. At 7 pm, guest speaker Professor Hamish Mair will give a presentation on the evolution of scientific diving and its impact on student training, employment, research, and scientific discovery. Networking time with refreshments provided follows at 8 pm.
The celebration brings together current and former divers, colleagues, students, and friends to mark six decades of underwater exploration, research, and discovery originating from the university's Orkney Campus.
