Official Dutch Public Holidays

While Dutch law does not guarantee paid leave, most employees receive these days off through employment contracts or collective labour agreements. The official public holidays include New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, King's Day, Ascension Day, Pentecost (Whit Sunday and Whit Monday), Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and Liberation Day which occurs every five years.
The holiday schedule features a distinctive pattern with many dates clustering around the spring period between Easter and May. Notably, there are no Dutch national holidays during the summer, creating a gap of seven to eight months between Whit Monday and Christmas Day.

Notable Traditions
Multi-day holidays in the Netherlands use first (eerste) and second (tweede) designations, such as Eerste kerstdag and Tweede kerstdag for Christmas. King's Day takes place every year on 27th April to celebrate the birthday of King Willem-Alexander. The city fills with street markets, outdoor concerts, and party boats, with people wearing orange clothing linked to the House of Oranje-Nassau. Neighbourhoods host vrijmarkten where anyone can sell second-hand goods on the street without a permit.
