Amsterdam Public Transport Guide: GVB Fares and Multiday Passes for 2026

  • GVB Distance Fare: A pay-as-you-go option suitable for occasional trips. It features a fixed boarding fee of €1.16 plus €0.217 per kilometre. Using OVpay allows contactless payment via debit, credit card, or mobile payment, with total daily fares capped at €10.50. Personal or anonymous OV-chip cards and OV-pas smart transport cards are also accepted, requiring a minimum €4 E-purse credit. A deposit-penalty of €4 applies if a passenger fails to check-out. Registered local residents aged 65+ and children aged 4-11 qualify for an age-based discount rate of a €0.77 boarding fee and €0.143 per kilometre.

  • GVB 1 Hour Single Ticket: This ticket costs €3.40 and is valid for 60 minutes across all GVB transport and transfers, activating upon the first check-in. It is not valid on GVB night buses. Short trips are often cheaper using the distance fare. Bringing a bicycle requires a €2.30 supplement, which is only permitted on tram 26 or the metro during off-peak times, excluding weekdays from 07:00 to 09:00 and 16:00 to 18:30.

  • GVB Multiday Tickets: Available for durations from 1 to 7 days, operating on a 24-hourly basis from the time of first check-in. Prices range from €10.00 for 24 hours up to €43.00 for 168 hours (7 days), with child tickets (ages 4-11) priced at €5.00 for 24 hours. These passes provide unlimited travel on the GVB network, including free GVB ferries. They are not valid on airport trains, the 397 airport bus, NS trains, or regional buses operated by Connexxion, EBS, and Qbuzz.

  • GVB Group Ticket: Available exclusively through the GVB app for a single user, priced at €27 for up to five people.

  • GVB Night Bus Ticket: Single rides on night buses cost €5.70 for 90 minutes.
