Epping Ongar Lights Party Express Returns for Festive Season 2026

A magical illuminated steam train ride is returning to the London-Essex border this winter. Running on selected dates from 14 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, the Epping Ongar Lights Party Express offers passengers a unique journey aboard fairy light-covered carriages hauled by a steam locomotive through scenic woodland.

Onboard Light Shows and Entertainment

Departing from Ongar station, the one-hour experience features illuminated line-side displays that can only be viewed from the train. Every passenger receives an individual LED wristband that turns the interior into a vibrant neon space, accompanied by song sheets and onboard commentary by 'Voiceover Man', known from popular television talent shows.

For 2026, the attraction features three distinct themed shows, each hosted by an onboard DJ:

• Christmas Gold: Traditional Christmas carols and festive singalong songs suited for families.

• The Party Anthems Train: Energetic pop hits tailored for families with older children.

• The Groove Train: A lively mix of 1970s and 1980s disco classics designed for adults and mature teenagers, including special departures on New Year's Eve.

Daytime Santa Specials

Families looking for daytime activities can opt for the Santa Specials, running on selected dates between 28 November and 24 December 2026. This option includes a ride on a vintage London bus, festive food stalls, a live brass band performance at North Weald station, and a visit from Santa at every seat, complete with gifts for all children.

Standard tickets for the evening Lights Party Express start at £25 per adult and £20 per child. Private compartments are available starting from £160. All trips begin and finish at Ongar station.
