Korea rolls out half-price travel program in 9 rural and fishing areas for 2nd half

A program that reimburses travelers for half of their expenses when touring rural and fishing villages will be rolled out in phases across nine regions from late this month.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) announced on Aug. 27 the selection of Hwacheon-gun County in Gangwon-do Province; Goseong-gun, Sancheong-gun and Hamyang-gun in Gyeongsangnam-do Province; Andong and Yeongcheon in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province; Seocheon-gun and Taean-gun in Chungcheongnam-do Province; and Jangheung-gun County in Jeollanam-do Province.

The discount applies in these regions during the second half of the year under the program's Regional Love Vacation Support.
Visitors to depopulated rural and fishing villages are reimbursed through Regional Love mobile gift certificates. General users can receive up to KRW 100,000 in vouchers, while young travelers can get a maximum of KRW 140,000.
In the first half of the year, the combined rebate value of KRW 5.2 billion allocated to 16 participating regions led to at least KRW 16.2 billion worth of consumption in those areas. Among participants, 31.2% reported taking unplanned trips because of the program, while half said they changed their travel destinations to a related region.
