Jakarta Coffee & Heritage Walking Tour: Legendary Shops and Landmarks from Menteng to Sabang
Looking for a different way to explore Jakarta? Tour Essentials
The walk starts at 8am at Masjid Cut Meutia and ends at 1pm at Hotel Mercure Jakarta Sabang. Every participant gets a breakfast of Paris Baguette pastries, a coffee break and a buffet lunch at the Mercure hotel — with the chance to win a free hotel stay for the best photo or video of the day.
Six Stops Not to Miss
1. Masjid Cut Meutia
The starting point in Menteng, this building has witnessed Jakarta's long history since 1912. Originally built in the Dutch colonial era, it was converted into a mosque and officially inaugurated in 1987, and has been a protected cultural heritage building since 1961.
2. Toko Kopi Luwak
Heading towards Gondangdia station, you'll pass this legendary coffee shop that has operated since 1970 and is now run by its third generation. Located at Jalan Srikaya I No 25 in Kebon Sirih, it still grinds coffee the traditional way, selling arabica beans from Lampung, Toraja and Sidikalang at Rp 120,000 to Rp 260,000 per kilogram.
3. Restaurant Rendezvous
Easily recognised by its pink facade, this legendary restaurant opened in 1973 and still serves authentic peranakan cuisine.
4. Masjid Cut Nyak Dien
An old mosque that has been renovated several times while retaining its role as a place of worship. According to the guide, worshippers originally prayed at Masjid Cut Meutia before overcrowding led them here.
5. Khong Guan Mart
A biscuit shop on Jalan Sabang whose history traces back to two Fujian-born brothers who emigrated to Singapore — Chew Choo Keng and Chew Choo Han — and has since become part of Indonesia's Lebaran tradition.
6. Jakarta Coffee House
Just across from Khong Guan, this coffee house originally operated in Cipete, South Jakarta, selling beans from across Indonesia and running professional barista classes.
