Indonesia's Independence Day (Hari Kemerdekaan) is a great time to explore Jakarta. If you're planning to head out on 17 August 2026, plenty of attractions remain open and can be enjoyed with family and friends.
Beyond sightseeing, visitors can also join a host of special events marking the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia (HUT RI ke-81), from independence performances to community street parties.

1. Ragunan Zoo (Taman Margasatwa Ragunan)
Ragunan Zoo, located at Jalan Harsono RM No.1 in Ragunan, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, stays open on 17 August 2026.
Bring the family or friends to admire the animals, or simply enjoy a picnic on the grounds.
Ragunan Zoo usually closes every Monday, but for Independence Day it opens specially from 07:00 to 16:00 WIB.
Ticket prices remain at standard rates: Rp 3,000 per child (ages 3-12) and Rp 4,000 per adult.

2. Seaworld Ancol
Seaworld Ancol stays open on this national holiday, making it a perfect pick for your 17 August itinerary.
Located at Jalan Lodan Timur No.7 in Ancol, Pademangan, North Jakarta, Seaworld is also hosting several special independence events.
For 17 August, Seaworld offers a special entry promo of Rp 81,000 for guests dressed in red and white (Indonesia's flag colours). The promo ticket is available for on-site purchase only.
Seaworld will also hold a red-and-white flag-raising ceremony inside the Shark Aquarium at 10:00 WIB.
There's also a special independence performance titled "Amanat dari Dasar Laut" (A Message from the Deep), which you can watch with the kids from 13:30 WIB.
