The World's Biggest Fun Run Returns to Sydney This Weekend: Your Complete City2Surf 2026 Guide

Sydney's iconic City2Surf is back for its 56th edition on Sunday, August 9, 2026 — here's everything you need to know before race day

Every August, Sydney comes alive with one of the city's most beloved annual traditions: the City2Surf. Now in its 56th year (and officially called the Voltaren City2Surf), this 14-kilometre race welcomes everyone from elite athletes to casual joggers, winding from the CBD all the way to the sandy shores of Bondi Beach — where the post-race festivities inevitably turn into one epic beachside celebration. Thinking of joining in? Here's your complete rundown.

When Is City2Surf 2026?

Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 9, 2026. Runners will set off in staggered waves between 7:35am and 9:55am, so there's a start time to suit every pace.

What's the City2Surf Route?

The 14-kilometre course takes you on a scenic journey through Sydney's eastern suburbs. Starting at Hyde Park in the heart of the CBD, runners head along William Street through Kings Cross, follow New South Head Road past Rushcutters Bay, Double Bay and Rose Bay, tackle the notorious two-kilometre climb known as 'Heartbreak Hill' into Vaucluse, then cruise along Old South Head Road past Dover Heights before the final stretch down Military Road and Campbell Parade to the finish line at Bondi Beach.

Can I Still Register for City2Surf 2026?

General entry spots have sold out, but there's still a way in: sign up as a charity superstar by committing to raise $1,000 for one of the event's official charity partners. You can find full details on the charity registration option on the event website.

How Much Does City2Surf Cost?

First-release general entry was priced at $99 for adults, $51 for kids aged 10–17, and $30 for children under nine. Since these tiers are now fully booked, your remaining path is the charity fundraising route, which gives you a spot on the starting line while supporting a great cause.

Where to Warm Up Before the Race

Left your training to the last minute? Same here. For some excellent eleventh-hour preparation, join Peloton's Sunrise Mobility Class and Morning Run at Clovelly Surf Club on Friday, August 7. The session opens with a Beyond Blue resilience and mental health panel, then moves into a mobility workout led by Peloton's Joslyn Thompson Rule alongside guest instructor Tim Robards, before wrapping up with an easy group run with Coogee Run Club. More of a coffee-first person? Drop by HOKA's City2Surf Pit Stop at Moore Park on Saturday morning to test the latest running shoes, grab a barista-made brew and soak up the pre-race energy.

Where to Eat and Drink After the Race

Bondi's top restaurants and bars fill up fast on race day, so book ahead. Right near the finish line, North Bondi Fish is throwing a one-off Disco Yum Cha with DJs, ocean views and a complimentary Aperol or Campari Spritz for finishers. At the southern end of the beach, Icebergs Dining Room and Bar serves a special three-course brunch with panoramic Bondi vistas. For serious refuelling, Henrietta offers nourishing bowls, charcoal chicken and free Tropeaka protein and electrolyte samples. Want to keep the party going? The Royal has DJs, breakfast deals and a free Hahn schooner for runners. Bondi Diggers, Harry's and Ravesis will all be buzzing, too. Or hop on the free shuttle to The Golden Sheaf for its legendary City2Sheaf party — drink specials and live DJs kick off from 2pm.

Where to Recover Post-Race

After conquering Heartbreak Hill and crossing that finish line, head straight to Peloton's Refresh Station in the Finisher's Village. It's stocked with Normatec compression boots, massage guns, fresh-pressed juices, recovery essentials and even a podium photo wall. Still have energy to burn? Jump on a five-minute Peloton ride or run at the village — every participant triggers a $10 donation to Beyond Blue (up to $4,000 total). If a proper soak and steam is what you're craving, check out the best spas and bathhouses Sydney has to offer.
