Picture yourself surrounded by the lush greenery of Odori Park, the cheerful clink of beer mugs filling the air alongside the irresistible aroma of sizzling jingisukan (Hokkaido-style grilled lamb) and fresh seafood. As one of Japan's largest beer gardens, this open-air wonderland pours brews from the country's top breweries, while a special Munich-inspired zone — a nod to Sapporo's German sister city — serves up authentic German beers. Every glass tells the story of a brewing tradition that took root in Sapporo way back in 1876.
Come mid-August, the festival reaches its crescendo with the Hokkai Bon Odori. Beneath the iconic Sapporo TV Tower, dancers in vibrant yukata robes move gracefully to the thunderous beat of taiko drums. The festivities ripple right across the city — from the dazzling parades of the Susukino Festival to the high-spirited Tanuki Festival inside the historic Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade.
For an entire month, Sapporo bursts with colour, music and human connection. Jump in and feel the warmth of Hokkaido's community during these fleeting, golden summer days.
