Paris' Most Spectacular Sunset: The Sun Aligns Through the Arc de Triomphe This Week
The most breathtaking sunset in Paris has returned.
Calling all photographers! This is one of the rarest shots to capture in Paris: the sun setting in perfect alignment through the Arc de Triomphe. Even better, the phenomenon lasts longer than the August 12 solar eclipse — visible from July 31 to August 4 (and potentially up to August 7 depending on your angle), though only for a few minutes each evening.

The photography site Photos in Paris recommends visiting on August 1 and 2 from the Champs-Élysées roundabout, and on August 4 from Place de la Concorde, where the sun appears almost perfectly centred in the arch. Even if you leave your camera at home, the spectacle is well worth watching — it's visible all along the Avenue des Champs-Élysées.
The best moment to snap your photo falls between 9:12 PM and 9:16 PM, depending on your position. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early, as crowds are likely to gather. And stay alert for traffic.
📍 Where: Arc de Triomphe, Place Charles-de-Gaulle, Paris 8th
📅 When: July 31 – August 7, starting at 9:00 PM
