Product Details

Ratchadamnoen Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, is a venue for hosting Thailand's popular sport—Muay Thai matches. There are two famous Muay Thai stadiums in Bangkok, Lumpinee Boxing Stadium and Ratchadamnoen Boxing Stadium, with matches alternating between the two almost daily, where fighters showcase their skills in real bouts. Ratchadamnoen Boxing Stadium is a royal‑system Muay Thai stadium, founded in 1945. Although the skill levels of fighters in both venues are comparable, this stadium has a slightly higher prestige. Match days at Bangkok's Ratchadamnoen Boxing Stadium are in the early evenings of Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, with Thursday's matches being the most exciting.

Introduction to Muay Thai

Muay Thai is Thailand's traditional martial art, characterised by the use of elbows, knees, fists, and shins for attacks at close range, making it a highly practical and lethal fighting system. Contemporary scholars still debate the history and origins of Muay Thai. Historically, Thailand engaged in several wars with Burma, and many historical records related to Muay Thai were lost when the ancient Burmese army captured the Ayutthaya Kingdom's capital.

Like other combat techniques, the emergence and development of Muay Thai inevitably went through a process from low to high level, from simple to complex. During human evolution and development, people were inevitably attacked by wild animals and internal enemies. To ensure their own safety, humans instinctively used various parts of their bodies to fight off attacking beasts and enemies, giving rise to primitive offensive and defensive movements. The ancestors of the Thai people combined their thoughts and knowledge gained from life experiences with the actual practice of attack and defence, further refining them, thus forming a system of bare‑handed combat techniques with their own ethnic characteristics.

Thai people often wait under a cramped iron shed from 6 pm until late at night, just to watch a thrilling Muay Thai match. Starting from the most basic bouts, one after another, never getting bored. A stall owner at the night market, who was watching a Muay Thai broadcast on TV, said with a hint of emotion: "Muay Thai can be considered a symbol of Thailand. Almost every Thai man grows up watching Muay Thai matches. It gives people the courage to fight, and in fact, it's also a kind of courage not to fear pain."
