Tired of the city hustle and bustle of Osaka and Kyoto? Want to escape the crowds and immerse yourself in Kansai's natural and healing scenery? This one‑day Lake Biwa highlights tour in Shiga brings together stunning mountain and lake views, a thousand‑year‑old shrine, a zen temple, and fairytale desserts all in one go — easily unlocking Kansai's hidden gems. No need to plan, just enjoy a leisurely journey.

As Japan's largest freshwater lake with a 4‑million‑year history, Lake Biwa is known as the "Mother Lake of Japan." Its vast 670‑square‑kilometre surface resembles a serene inland sea, offering distinct seasonal beauty throughout the year, with mountains and lake complementing each other for a deeply healing experience. The first stop on the itinerary is the super popular hidden gem Shirahige Shrine — the vermilion torii gate standing in the lake is the soul of this scenic spot. The 10‑metre‑high torii gate floats elegantly above the blue waves, creating an atmospheric scene where water meets sky. Known as the "Itsukushima of Omi," every shot here is a Japanese‑style masterpiece.

Next, take the high‑altitude ropeway directly up to the Biwako Valley terrace at 1,100 metres above sea level. Enjoy a five‑minute aerial ride with panoramic views of the entire Lake Biwa. The infinity observation deck offers unobstructed views of the lake and mountains — blue sky, distant peaks, and lake water all merge into one, as if you're in a hidden cloud paradise. The signature blue seats at the summit are an extremely photogenic spot. When you're tired, take a break at the summit café and enjoy delicious food with lake views.

Then step into the tranquil zen realm of Mangetsu‑ji Temple's Ukimido. This wooden ancient temple built by the lake appears to float on the water, connected to the shore by a pier. Elegant and serene, far from the madding crowd, you'll be fully immersed in Japanese zen aesthetics and lakeside charm.

The final stop is the dreamy La Collina in Omihachiman — a real‑life fairytale village. Its thatched‑roof, green‑topped buildings blend into the lush natural greenery, fresh and refreshing. Don't miss the freshly baked signature Baumkuchen cake — soft, fragrant, and melt‑in‑your‑mouth, it's a treat for the taste buds amidst the forest‑inspired scenery, rounding off the day with warmth and delight.

In just one day, connect nature, culture, food, and stunning photo spots — escape the city crowds and collect Kansai's most healing scenery with a relaxing lakeside journey.
