The venue was originally named Amsterdam Arena. In the 2018‑2019 season, it was officially renamed Johan Cruyff Arena in memory of the Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff, who passed away in 2016. As of 2025, the stadium can accommodate 55,865 people for football matches, with an initial capacity of 51,200, and a maximum capacity of 71,000 for concerts.
This venue has hosted numerous major events, including the 1998 UEFA Champions League Final, several matches of UEFA Euro 2000 (including the semi‑finals), the 2013 UEFA Europa League Final, and three group stage matches and one round of 16 match of UEFA Euro 2020.
