Attraction Highlights

The Royal Palace Amsterdam (Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam) was built between 1648 and 1655, designed by architect Jacob van Campen, originally used as the city hall of Amsterdam and hailed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". In 1808, Napoleon's brother Louis Bonaparte converted it into a royal palace, and after 1813, it became the official reception palace of the Dutch royal family.

Architectural Marvel

The most breathtaking aspect of the palace is its architectural structure: the entire building is supported by 13,659 oak piles driven into the marshland, and the marble floor is inlaid with star charts of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, symbolising the universe. The Citizens' Hall (Burgerzaal) is 25 metres high, 60 metres wide, and 120 metres long, making it the largest hall in the palace, with intricately decorated walls and ceilings, showcasing the prosperity and artistic achievements of 17th‑century Netherlands.

Special Experiences

Free audio guide, special exhibitions during royal events, family‑exclusive guided tours

When you stand in front of the palace, you can not only feel the solemn grandeur of the Dutch royal family but also appreciate the magnificent architectural art and cultural heritage of the Netherlands' "Golden Age" in the 17th century.
