Sengan‑en is a grand residence and landscape garden built along the northern coast of Kagoshima city centre by the powerful Shimazu clan. The garden covers over 12 acres, encompassing serene ponds, babbling streams, mysterious shrines, tea rooms, bamboo groves, and hiking trails. Join this special tour to explore the 360‑year‑old house and garden, which includes lunch, a traditional cultural experience, and a visit to the Shōko Shūseikan and Satsuma Kiriko glass workshop.

Sengan‑en is a traditional Japanese garden and mansion located in Kagoshima, built in 1658 by Mitsuhisa Shimazu, the 19th head of the Shimazu family. Sengan‑en employs the "borrowed scenery" landscaping technique, integrating the view of the active volcano Sakurajima into the garden landscape.

Upon entering Sengan‑en, you will receive a "Mizuhiki" as a special badge for joining the tour. Mizuhiki symbolises the connection between people and is used to pray for good relationships and happiness.

[Glass Accessory Handcraft] Use sparkling crystal glass to create a one‑of‑a‑kind original accessory.

[Ōshima Tsumugi Sachet] Fill a kimono silk pouch with various herbs and spices to create a unique fragrance sachet.

Refresh your mind and body by tasting traditional Kagoshima tea snacks at the Sengan‑en Matcha Café.

Chicken rice is a local delicacy from Amami Ōshima in Kagoshima Prefecture. Steamed chicken and mushrooms are placed on rice, and then a delicious chicken broth is poured over it. Enjoy it to the fullest!

Take a relaxing moment in the sophisticated modern Japanese atmosphere of the Sengan‑en Matcha Café. Sip on carefully selected premium teas from Kagoshima, paired with delicious local sweets, and experience the ultimate Japanese hospitality (omotenashi).

Shirokuma ice is a shaved ice dessert originating from Kagoshima. Condensed milk is poured over natural ice, and it is topped with colourful fruits.
