Product Details

When visiting the quaint and historic Lukang Township, you absolutely cannot miss this landmark that embodies a century of history and cultural charm—the Lukang Folk Arts Museum.

Originally the former residence of the Ko Family, one of the five major families in Taiwan, the building features a Western‑style architecture mixed with influences from the Taishō period. It took six years to complete and, upon its completion in 1919, was the first Western‑style mansion in the area. Its fusion of various classical Western architectural styles makes it a classic in Taiwan's architectural history, and it is locally known as "Dahe Mansion." It is also a highly historically significant and representative private historic residence in Taiwan.

In 1973, the Ko Family, upholding the spirit of "taking from society and giving back to society," established the Lukang Folk Arts Museum Foundation, transforming their ancestral home into a cultural museum preserving the living memories of Taiwan. The museum houses over 6,000 precious artifacts, covering food, clothing, housing, transportation, religious customs, and festive culture from the Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China period. From wedding dowry items and household furniture to ritual objects and sacred vessels, each piece tells the story of Taiwan's societal landscape and life aesthetics over the past century.
