Taoyuan Daxi｜Xizhou Environmental Education Park｜Sedimentation Pond Guided Tour & Handcrafts

In the year before the Shihmen Reservoir was inaugurated in the 53rd year of the Republic of China, it was hit by Typhoon Gloria, which instantly brought nearly 20 million cubic metres of sediment into the reservoir. Whenever there were heavy rains or typhoons, sediment kept being carried into the Shihmen Reservoir. About 20 years after the reservoir began operation, its lifespan flashed a red light. However, the emergence of the 'sedimentation basin' helped extend the reservoir's life.

This is a special little trip. Through the painted 'Kuni Niu' (clay cows) made from kiln‑fired mud, children and adults alike can immerse themselves in the joy of a shared experience. By walking through the sedimentation basin, parents and children can open up new perspectives together. The journey of environmental education can be very different — no longer a rigid lecture, but an immersive experience.
