Attraction Highlights

Museum Willet‑Holthuysen is located in the heart of Amsterdam's UNESCO‑listed canal ring. Built in 1685, this double‑fronted patrician mansion from the Dutch Golden Age is the only canal house museum open to the public that retains its original interior decoration in full. The house was donated to the city by wealthy merchant couple Abraham Willet and Louisa Holthuysen, and officially opened to the public in 1895. It is now part of the Amsterdam Museum. The three floors of the museum faithfully recreate the living scenes of the 19th‑century upper class, with Louis XVI‑style lavish drawing rooms, a ballroom, dining room and bedrooms filled with precious collections, including Venetian glass, German Meissen porcelain, paintings by Dutch and French masters, and silverware. The basement offers a glimpse of the servants' quarters and kitchen, while outside lies a classic formal French garden. The attraction provides free multilingual audio guides and introduces contemporary art special exhibitions twice a year, offering both historical immersion and artistic appreciation, suitable for history enthusiasts, families and culture explorers.
