Attraction Highlights

Located in the heart of Amsterdam, adjacent to Central Station and the canal belt, the Netherlands Twentieth Century History Museum (evolved from the predecessor of NEMO Science Museum, now focusing on 20th‑century themes) boasts a distinctive architectural style and stands as a landmark of the city's culture. Housing over 100,000 precious artefacts, photographs, audiovisual materials and artworks, the museum systematically presents the development trajectory of the Netherlands from industrialisation to modernisation through four core exhibition areas: 'War and Peace', 'Social Change', 'Technological Progress', and 'Cultural Prosperity'. With interactive installations, simulated scenes and multilingual commentary, visitors can intuitively experience the pulse of history, making it suitable for all ages and history enthusiasts.

Panoramic Historical Narrative: Arranged chronologically, the exhibition uses a wealth of physical objects and multimedia displays to comprehensively recreate the major political, economic, cultural and social transformations of the Netherlands in the 20th century, providing detailed and easily understandable information.

Highly Interactive Experience: Featuring multiple interactive zones, visitors can use touchscreens to browse detailed historical records, participate in historical scene simulations, and watch immersive films, breaking away from the static viewing model of traditional museums.

Striking Architectural Design: The exterior of the building is sleek and grand, and its open rooftop terrace is not only a hotspot for taking photos but also offers a panoramic view of Amsterdam's city centre and canals, combining the values of visitation and sightseeing.

Highly Educational: The exhibition area includes dedicated parent‑child interaction zones and youth experience programmes, complemented by detailed multilingual guidebooks and guided tour services, making it an excellent educational venue for family trips and student groups.

It can be easily combined with city itineraries, and after the visit, guests can explore the surrounding shopping and dining districts.
