The Shanghai Tower‘s “Top of Shanghai” Observation Deck is a functional experience zone of the Shanghai Tower. At the 360‑degree panoramic observation deck at the Top of Shanghai, you can look down upon the Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Tower, and Shanghai World Financial Centre up close, and take in the panoramic views of the Expo Site, City God Temple Tourist Area, Shanghai Stadium, and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in the distance, while gazing at the Suzhou Creek and the Huangpu River winding their way together into the Yangtze River and then into the East China Sea.

Growing Skyline: This exhibit is located in the prelude hall of the Top of Shanghai Exhibition Hall on Level B1. Using a 100‑second realistic animated film, it encapsulates the development history of the skyline growth of the Bund and Lujiazui in Pudong over more than 170 years since the opening of Shanghai’s port in 1840. Through a dynamic synthesis of imagery and sound, it intuitively shows the ever‑changing landscape of Shanghai, with skyscrapers rising one after another and heights being constantly surpassed, until the Shanghai Tower became the new height and new landmark of Shanghai.

930-6.jpg

Shanghai’s Shanghai Tower: Divided into three themes — “Shanghai’s Charm,” “Shanghai’s Height,” and “Shanghai’s Shanghai Tower” — this exhibit uses a combination of dynamic and static elements, as well as virtual and real displays, to interweave dynamic images among static photographs. From different perspectives, it showcases Shanghai‑style architecture of various periods and styles. Over time, it gradually reveals the representative buildings in the development process of this international metropolis. These buildings, rich in architectural beauty and steeped in profound historical and cultural heritage, embody the urban essence full of Shanghai’s charm, representing both inheritance and transcendence.

930-8.jpg

Skyscraper Dream: Utilising the country’s current technology of motion self‑illuminating transparent screens combined with transparent crystal models, this exhibit comprehensively showcases the mysteries of skyscrapers. It presents the evolutionary journey of the world’s tallest buildings, with heights being constantly broken since 1885, and reflects humanity’s relentless pursuit of the “skyscraper dream.” It also displays the ranking of the world’s tallest buildings as of 2020, professionally provided by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), serving as a window for a comprehensive view of global high‑rise architecture.

Gene Bank: The Gene Bank reveals the entire process of planning, birth, and construction of this vertical city, the Shanghai Tower. It simulates and showcases over ten world‑first initiatives, such as the sky garden and the damper, unveiling the lesser‑known genetic structure of many aspects of the tower.

Vertical City: The Vertical City exhibition area utilises the world’s cutting‑edge 3D printing technology, using a 1:350 scale nylon material model of the tower printed as a whole. Employing a new media display method integrating main screen and sub‑screens with audio, lighting, and electricity, it showcases various green, smart, and humanistic features of the Shanghai Tower, such as the rainwater collector, double‑glazed curtain wall, BIM construction technology, “Shanghai Girl,” and “Fish of Joy,” expressing the concept of a vertical city.

930-10.jpg

The Top of Shanghai Observation Deck is equipped with three of the world’s fastest high‑speed lifts, reaching speeds of up to 18 metres per second. It takes only 55 seconds to reach the Top of Shanghai Observation Deck on the 118th floor of the Shanghai Tower. While riding the lift, visitors can view the real‑time operating speed, height, and direction of the lift on the screen. Beyond the thrill of the lift speed, every visitor will also be impressed by its comfort and stability.

Sky Post Office: Located at the Top of Shanghai Observation Deck on the 118th floor, every postcard captures the beauty of the Top of Shanghai. Pick one for yourself or your friends and family to match the moment’s mood and sentiment. The messages sent from the Top of Shanghai Observation Deck are keepsakes and timeless gifts worth treasuring.

Wishing Tree: The wishing tree on the 118th floor has also undergone a brand new upgrade. Write down a wish card or blessing tag, tie it to the wishing tree in the clouds with a red string, and it will preserve memories of the future. It is hoped that more people will make lofty and beautiful “star” wishes at the Top of Shanghai Observation Deck.

930-7.jpg

At the 360‑degree panoramic observation deck of the Top of Shanghai, you can look down upon the Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Tower, and Shanghai World Financial Centre up close, and take in the full views of the Expo Site, City God Temple Tourist Area, Shanghai Stadium, and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in the distance, while surveying the Suzhou Creek and the Huangpu River winding together into the Yangtze River and onward to the East China Sea. Standing here, at times surrounded by blue sky as if in a celestial realm, and at other times riding above the clouds as if in a magical world, the Top of Shanghai Observation Deck allows you to fully enjoy ever‑changing scenery, witness the world’s splendour, and take in the breathtaking views of all the peaks.

Love Locks in the Clouds: Together with your beloved, hang a heartfelt love lock — a sincere wish and an eternal promise. Engrave the names of a loving couple on the lock, tightly “locking” their hearts together, making their love everlasting, and leaving a witness of happiness at the Top of Shanghai Observation Deck.

Top of Shanghai Brand Store: The Top of Shanghai brand stores are located at the Top of Shanghai Observation Deck on the 118th floor and at the sightseeing exit on Level B2, offering a dazzling array of merchandise featuring elements of Shanghai and the Shanghai Tower.
