Highlights of Taipei 101 Observatory
The full official name of the Taipei 101 wind damper is the Tuned Mass Damper (TMD). It is a passive damping system custom‑designed for the building's needs, centrally located between the 87th and 92nd floors. Its main purpose is to reduce the building's sway when buffeted by strong winds, thereby minimising discomfort for people working inside. Unlike traditional hidden damping systems, the Taipei 101 wind damper has been carefully designed to balance both functionality and aesthetics, allowing visitors on the observatory to witness the entire operation of the damping system. The 89th‑floor observatory features a brand‑new space, the "High‑altitude Sky Lounge Area," which adds a more romantic and atmospheric setting for moon‑gazing and city views at night. During the day, the views are equally spectacular, offering a chance to enjoy the ever‑changing hues of dusk and twilight!
