Dear Esteemed Guests, as November and December 2025 are the peak season for autumn foliage viewing, in order to avoid the morning rush hour, reduce traffic congestion, and allow you to enjoy a full and smooth sightseeing experience, we have adjusted the departure time on Saturdays and Sundays to one hour earlier. Please take note and make your travel preparations in advance. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
First Stop: Tōshōgū Shrine — The pinnacle of Edo‑period artistry and one of Japan’s most iconic historical and cultural heritage sites. From the symbolic "Three Wise Monkeys" (see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil) to the "Sleeping Cat" that heralds peace, and to Chinese sages and mythical auspicious beasts, it is a veritable encyclopedia of Japanese craftsmanship. The vermilion palace halls intertwined with towering ancient cedars create a solemn atmosphere, and the sight of autumn leaves dyed in gold against the golden foil is simply breathtaking.
Second Stop: Irohazaka Winding Road (drive‑through, no alighting). A legendary winding road in Japan, named for its 48 hairpin turns corresponding to the 48 letters of the Japanese alphabet. In autumn, the entire road transforms into a three‑dimensional gallery of interwoven red and gold, and is acclaimed as one of the "World’s Most Beautiful Autumn Scenery Roads".
Third Stop: Lake Chūzenji — Japan’s highest volcanic lake. With azaleas in spring, lush green trees in summer, vibrant autumn leaves, and snowy landscapes in winter, the scenery is beautiful in all four seasons. Legend has it that an ancient shrine lies submerged at the bottom of the lake, and when mist envelops the area, it resembles the ethereal world from "Princess Mononoke".
Fourth Stop: Kegon Falls — One of Japan’s three major waterfalls. The waters of Lake Chūzenji thunder down from a 100‑metre cliff, and the spray refracts sunlight into an eternal rainbow. In winter, there is another spectacle: the cold current freezes the waterfall into giant ice pillars, which glow with an ethereal blue light under the night‑time illumination, creating a surreal scene with the snow‑covered pines on the lakeshore. Writer Tokutomi Roka once lamented this sight as "the embodiment of heaven and earth’s fury".
