Want to take the kids close to nature in summer but afraid of the scorching sun? Guangzhou Zoo is a cost‑effective choice, with shaded walking paths that let children observe animals up close while staying cool and learning something new.

Zoo Map Guide:

Highlights

Among the over 400 animal species in the zoo, don't miss the star species that are active in summer: the giraffe family strolls on the lawn when the morning dew is still fresh, golden monkeys leap nimbly among the tree shades, and the "bath show" of white tigers in the pool is adorably amusing. The newly built "Rainforest Valley" exhibit area is a natural canopy, where in the semi‑open space with babbling streams, ring‑tailed lemurs will approach you for food. The observation tunnel in the predator area is equipped with a mist cooling system, allowing you to safely watch tigers and leopards while feeling a refreshing coolness.

Reasons to Visit

As the "green lung" of the city centre, the zoo's greenery coverage rate reaches 70%, and the large banyan trees along the main roads form natural sunshades. Compared to purely outdoor scenic spots, there are over 20 pavilions and indoor exhibition halls (such as the Aquarium and Reptile House) where you can escape the sun at any time. Tickets are only 20 yuan, offering great value for money, perfect for a family day trip, avoiding the stuffy feeling of air‑conditioned shopping malls.

Transportation

MTR: 8‑minute walk from Exit D of Huanghuagang Station (Line 6), or direct access to the South Gate from Exit B of Zoo Station (Line 5), avoiding direct sunlight throughout the journey.

Bus: Multiple routes go directly to "Zoo Terminus"; alight at the North Gate. It is recommended to choose air‑conditioned buses.

Driving: Parking spaces at the North Gate car park are limited and often full after 10am on summer weekdays. Taking the MTR is recommended to save time and hassle.

Tips for Visiting

Wear breathable sports shoes and a hat with a brim. Bring a portable fan and wet wipes. Carry enough drinking water; drinking water stations are densely distributed throughout the zoo for refills. The predator area and primate area have feeding sessions before 10am, which is the best time for viewing. In the afternoon, you can retreat to the Aquarium (combo ticket 30 yuan) or the Science Museum to enjoy the air conditioning and watch the dolphin show. Bring a portable picnic mat; the lawn area near the bamboo grove is great for a picnic lunch, avoiding the restaurant crowds.
