Guangdong Chikan Ancient Town Overseas Chinese International Tourism Resort is located on the banks of the Tanjiang River in the central part of Kaiping City, Guangdong Province. With a history of 370 years since its establishment as a market town, Chikan Ancient Town was developed by the Guan clan in the upper district and the Situ clan in the lower district, who settled at the east and west ends of the town. It boasts over 600 arcade buildings and was recognised as a National Historic and Cultural Town in 2007.

Over the centuries, under the healthy competition between the Guan and Situ clans, the architectural style and folk life of Chikan Ancient Town blended Chinese and Western influences. Leveraging its unique overseas Chinese culture and family governance system, it developed into a distinctive commercial hub in Lingnan. With the passage of time, the ancient town experienced ups and downs. To preserve and utilise it as a whole and revive the overseas Chinese culture, the Kaiping municipal government partnered with CITIC Industrial Fund and the Wuzhen team, using the historic arcade streets as a grand backdrop to create an integrated leisure tourism resort featuring sightseeing, relaxation, business conferences, cultural creativity, and ancient town experiences.

The resort includes 8 boutique hotels, 4 themed hotels, 14 guesthouses and inns of various styles, 13 restaurants, 238 shops, 9 cultural exhibition points (provincial heritage protection units), and comprehensive supporting facilities. Guangdong Chikan Ancient Town Overseas Chinese International Tourism Resort will serve as a platform showcasing Lingnan culture, overseas Chinese culture, rural culture, and leisure culture, becoming a major new cultural tourism landmark with significant influence in Guangdong and across the nation, a key project and typical example of cultural industry empowering rural revitalisation in the province, and a new vehicle for spreading traditional Chinese culture.
